The name is something that I personally use for this process in order to make it easier to be distinguished from other.<\/p>\n<p>In the following lines I will try to explain important differences between the two:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Duration:<\/strong> The extension of legal stay is for an estimated time of 8 months. Visa extension is for the remaining time of your entry stamp until it reaches a maximum of 90 days. For example, if at the moment of entrance, you are granted 30 days permission to stay in the country, with the visa extension process you will be granted only 60 days, no more. But, if you have been granted 90 days, you can not apply for a visa extension anymore. On the contrary, even if you are granted 90 days, you can apply for extension of legal stay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Government fees:<\/strong> The government fees for visa extension is $100. But the government fee for extension of legal stay is $50.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Stamps:<\/strong> For the extension of visa, you must cancel tax stamps. But for the extension of legal stay, it is NOT necessary to cancel tax stamps.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Response time:<\/strong> For visa extension it is minimum 90 days since migration has by law, 90 days to respond your solicitude. Currently, there have been many cases where this response has taken even longer. But, the result of extension of legal stay is immediate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Work Permit:<\/strong> None of these process grants a work permit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economic Solvency:<\/strong> In the process of extension of tourism (visa) it is mandatory to demonstrate economic solvency.
