Do you know which are the immigration categories in Costa Rica that have Libre de Condición?

Free Work condition (Libre de Condición) is not a migratory category, nor is it a migratory status. Rather, it is the labor condition that some migratory subcategories enjoy.

These subcategories are:

  • Permanent Residency by consanguinity with a Costa Rican citizen.
  • Permanent Residency for having completed 3 consecutive years with temporary residency.
  • Temporary Residency for being spouse or wife of a Costa Rican.
  • Approved Refugee and asylum seeker.
  • Special Category dependent of permanent resident (only spouse, father and mother enjoy Libre de Condición).
  • Special Category dependent of temporary resident (only father and mother enjoy this work permit).

*It should be noted that the work permit card of the refugee applicant has free work permit status. The refugee application is not an immigration subcategory. This work permit is a humanitarian aid given to the persons who apply for the refugee subcategory considering human rights indications and the reasoning of the refugee applications.

**There are other subcategories that enjoy Libre de Condición that are not as common as the above.
